BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team PPR Leagues
ROSTERED: 20% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Considering the slew of incumbent 2020 Panthers he shares the field with (Christian McCaffrey, D.J. Moore, Robby Anderson) and the fact that Sam Darnold didn't look super comfortable in his regular season Panthers debut, and honestly, Terrace Marshall Jr.'s receiving production doesn't read too shabby at all, even if taken with a "come on man, they played the Jets" grain of salt. Marshall was a second round pick to the Panthers out of LSU in 2021 and deservedly so, because his college statistics over the course of three seasons are putting out very strong "Marvin Jones" vibes. Predictably, it was tough to break in as a freshman at LSU, but he still caught twelve passes for a beefy 192 yards over nine games.
As a sophomore, Marshall became a big-yardage and TD-scoring machine for the Tigers, going for 671 yards and a robust 13 trips to the end zone off of 46 receptions through 12 games. His third and final year saw him limited to seven games, and that's a shame too, because he was poised to break out in a ridiculous way, as evidenced by the 731 yards and ten TDs (48 receptions) he recorded in a little over half of the time it took him as a sophomore. That's a downright nasty killer instinct that he possesses in the red zone, and considering the fact that Carolina's top three WR of 2020 (Moore, Anderson, and Curtis Samuel) combined for only ten touchdowns despite also combining for an impressive 3,140 yards receiving between the three of them, I'd say there's an excellent chance that Marshall's ability to go up and pull it down in a crowd will be called upon sooner rather than later.
It shouldn't be discouraging that Marshall remains behind Moore and Anderson in the pecking order, but in fact, in the Panthers' Week One win over the Zach Wilson-led Jets, while his total yardage only amounted to 26, Marshall actually ranked third on the team in targets (six) and receptions (three) behind only Moore and McCaffrey, while Anderson was, of course, able to connect on a lone 57-yard touchdown pass. He surpassed Anderson in looks and grabs, and other than Moore and CMC at the top of the food chain, he wasted no time in establishing his place in the passing game ahead of Dan Arnold, Ian Thomas, and Chuba Hubbard. It's anyone's wild guess as to how much passing Sam Darnold will be able to handle moving forward, but his style seems to compliment Marshall as a receiver in feeding him from reliable distance as opposed to rolling the dice on Anderson three or four times a game. The Panthers definitely had issues getting the ball over the line in Week One, but rather than having to accept that as a given, 6'2, 205-lb. Terrace Marshall Jr. might just have the medicine to immediately make this a more complete offense.
