3 years agoThe Cleveland Guardians declined their option on catcher Roberto Perez Friday, making the veteran backstop a free agent. Perez would have made $7 million dollars in 2022 had the option been exercised. He will instead receive a $450 thousand dollar buyout. Perez is regarded as an excellent defensive option behind the plate, but he only managed a .149/.245/.319 slash line with seven homers in 141 at-bats this season. That performance will make it hard for him to command more than a back-up role in 2022, and leaves him off the fantasy radar entering next season.--Doug Goldring - RotoBaller
