Jimmy Garoppolo Has A Chance To Play
3 years agoSan Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (thumb) feels better than he did a few days ago and seems to have a shot to play on Sunday. It should be noted that "having a shot to play" is not a ringing endorsement, but it appears that the veteran will try to be ready on Sunday, which would force rookie Trey Lance back to the bench. The rookie is the more attractive fantasy option because of his rushing floor, and Garoppolo looked atrocious last week, so he would certainly not be a recommended play if he does start. Also, Houston has been much better against the pass of late and is really vulnerable against the run, so the 49ers would likely lean on Jeff Wilson Jr. or Elijah Mitchell rather than ask an injured Garoppolo to pass the ball around the field. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said that Garoppolo doesn't need surgery right now for a Grade 3 sprain of his thumb.
