49ers Activate Trey Sermon From Injured Reserve
3 years agoThe San Francisco 49ers activated rookie running back Trey Sermon (ankle) from Injured Reserve on Tuesday. Sermon went on IR after suffering an ankle injury in Week 12 against the Minnesota Vikings. Tuesday was the deadline to activate him or lose him for the postseason. The 22-year-old started two games earlier this year when the Niners backfield was really beat up, and he has only 41 carries for 167 yards (4.1 yards per carry) and one touchdown in nine games in his first NFL season. Sermon also has three catches on four targets for 26 yards. With rookie Elijah Mitchell leading this backfield as long as he's healthy and with Jeff Wilson Jr. and JaMycal Hasty also available, Sermon might be a healthy scratch for the wild-card game against the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday.
