Packers Fire Maurice Drayton Tuesday
3 years agoThe Green Bay Packers fired special teams coordinator Maurice Drayton on Tuesday, the second straight offseason that the Packers fired their special teams coordinator. Special teams blunders played a huge part in the team losing 13-10 to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round. The Packers special teams unit was a weakness all year, though, as they ranked 31st in ESPN's FPI and were dead last in Rick Gosselin's special teams rankings. Drayton becomes the eighth straight Packers special teams coordinator to be pushed out. In the loss to San Francisco, the Packers became the first team in 33 years to have a punt and field goal blocked in the same playoff game. Green Bay also allowed a 45-yard kickoff return in the same game, which set the 49ers up for a field goal, and they had only 10 players on the field during the Niners' game-winning field goal.
