MLB, Players Agree To Universal Designated Hitter
3 years agoMajor League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred announced on Thursday that "we've agreed to a universal designated hitter and eliminated draft-pick compensation" for the new collective bargaining agreement. Manfred also announced that a draft lottery will be added as an anti-tanking measure. Spring training is currently in jeopardy of starting on time while the league and players try to work out a new CBA, but Manfred expressed optimism that the regular season will start on time on March 31. The two sides are trying to avoid baseball's first regular season work stoppage since 1994. The inclusion of a universal DH moving forward doesn't really come as a surprise, but it will help many bat-first free agents that remain available on the open market.
