Roquan Smith A Candidate For Contract Extension
3 years agoChicago Bears linebacker Roquan Smith is an obvious candidate to receive a new deal. He'll turn 25 this year, is the leader of the defense and is coming off back-to-back Pro Bowl-quality seasons. Smith will play the 2022 season under the fifth-year option at $9.735 million guaranteed, but a new contract could reduce his salary cap hit and push it down the line. It could cost Chicago more in the long run, but they could let Smith play out the 2022 season and then use the franchise tag on him in 2023. Because the Bears have plenty of cap space this offseason, they don't necessarily need to get a deal with Smith done. In IDP leagues, Smith was a top-five fantasy linebacker with 96 tackles, three sacks and an interception in 17 games.
