3 years agoSNY's Andy Martino doesn't think the New York Mets and starting pitcher Jacob deGrom will work out a contract extension anytime soon, if at all. deGrom has an opt-out clause in his contract after the 2022 season, and it wouldn't surprise anyone around the team if he exercised it. For the Mets, there's no real reason to commit to a pitcher who will turn 34 in June after missing the second half of last season with elbow issues. deGrom signed a five-year, $137.5 million extension in 2019, and extension talks between him and the Mets broke down last spring. The two sides are way apart, according to sources. When healthy, the right-hander is one of the best pitchers in the game, so he could try to top the record-setting $43.3 million annual average value that the Mets gave Max Scherzer.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
