Packers Restructure Aaron Jones' Contract
3 years agoThe Green Bay Packers created $3.08 million in salary cap space for the 2022 season by converting $3.85 million of running back Aaron Jones' 2022 compensation into a signing bonus and adding two void years to his contract, according to a source. The Packers have now created almost $14 million in cap space in the last two days, with more moves likely coming. It's clear that the team wants to keep their roster largely intact from last season, including quarterback Aaron Rodgers. After going for over 1,000 rushing yards in 2019 and 2020, Jones ran the ball 171 times for 799 yards and four rushing touchdowns in 2021, adding a career-high 52 catches for 391 additional yards and six TDs. He's expected to be a primary offensive weapon yet again in 2022, but the emergence of A.J. Dillon and the uncertainty of whether Rodgers will return could significantly impact his ceiling.
