Packers Don't Want To Use Franchise Tag On Davante Adams
3 years agoGreen Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said the team doesn't want to use the franchise tag on impending free-agent wide receiver Davante Adams this offseason. The team has until March 8 to do so, but the last time they used the tag was in 2010 on nose tackle Ryan Pickett. Gutekunst left open the possibility that Adams will hit the open market on March 16, but that seems highly unlikely to happen. Adams doesn't want the tag either, as an extension would likely pay him at least $5 million more in 2022 than the $20.12 million tag salary. If quarterback Aaron Rodgers doesn't return, there's a scenario in which the Packers tag and trade Adams to get something for him. The 29-year-old had a franchise-record 1,553 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns on 123 catches in 2021 and is one of the top pass-catchers in the NFL. Rodgers' future ties directly to Adams' 2022 fantasy appeal.
