Packers A Lock To Use Franchise Tag On Davante Adams?
3 years agoESPN's Rob Demovsky thinks the Green Bay Packers almost certainly will use the franchise tag to keep impending free-agent wide receiver Davante Adams off the market with the hope that they can reach a long-term contract to bring him back if quarterback Aaron Rodgers returns in 2022. General manager Brian Gutekunst said this week that the team would like to avoid tagging Adams, one of the best receivers in the game, but it could become a necessity if the two sides can't work out a long-term deal soon enough. The 29-year-old obviously won't have nearly as high of a fantasy ceiling if Rodgers isn't throwing him passes in 2022. Adams had a franchise-record 1,553 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns on 123 catches last season.
