3 years agoThe Washington Nationals signed relief pitcher Carl Edwards Jr. to a minor league deal on Friday, according to sources. In just 5 2/3 total innings with the Atlanta Braves and Toronto Blue Jays last season, Edwards allowed seven earned runs (three home runs surrendered) while striking out six and walking three for an ERA of 11.12 in seven total appearances. The last time the 30-year-old right-hander had success at the major league level came in 2018 with the Chicago Cubs, when he had a 2.60 ERA and 1.31 WHIP while fanning 67 hitters and walking 32 in 52 innings over 58 relief outings. Edwards has a career ERA of 3.77 and three saves in seven big league seasons since 2015, and he'll provide the Nats with an experienced bullpen arm in 2022.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
