Giants Want Sterling Shepard To Take Pay Cut
3 years agoThe New York Giants have asked wide receiver Sterling Shepard to take a significant pay cut in order to return to the team on a shortened one-year deal in 2022, according to a league source. Shepard is scheduled to count for $12.495 million against the salary cap and is coming off a torn Achilles suffered in December. The Giants could save $4.505 million by cutting him and adding $7.99 million in dead cap money. The 29-year-old is expected to play for close to the league minimum for a player with six years of service time if he accepts the pay cut. Shepard has two years remaining on his current deal, and he's said to be considering the pay cut. The 29-year-old could be ready to go for the start of the 2022 season, but he's unlikely to be available for spring workouts. Shepard has played in just 19 games in the last two seasons combined. It's safe to say his fantasy value has fallen considerably.
