Cowboys Seriously Considering Franchise Tag For Dalton Schultz
3 years agoThe Dallas Cowboys are seriously considering placing the franchise tag on impending free-agent tight end Dalton Schultz by the deadline on Tuesday, according to a source. Schultz has been a strong candidate for the franchise tag all along, so this shouldn't come as a big surprise. The Cowboys are expected to trade or release wide receiver Amari Cooper and re-sign Michael Gallup to a contract extension. The franchise tag would buy the team more time to work on an extension for Schultz, who would play the 2022 season for $10.9 million if he's tagged. The 25-year-old has 141 catches for 1,423 yards and 12 touchdowns on 193 targets in the last two years and has become a strong TE1 choice for fantasy managers, especially with Blake Jarwin (hip) unlikely to be ready for the start of next season.
