Browns Plan To Keep Austin Hooper Around
3 years agoThe Cleveland Browns plan to keep tight end Austin Hooper despite placing the $10.9 million franchise tag on fellow tight end David Njoku on Monday, according to sources. Hooper is due $9.5 million in salary in 2022 in the third year of a four-year deal. The 27-year-old made the Pro Bowl in his final two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons in 2018 and 2019 and his fantasy stock was on the rise after a 75-787-6 season in 2019, but he came crashing back down to Earth in his first year in Cleveland in 2020 with a 46-435-4 line in 13 games. Hooper was even worse last year, catching only 38 passes for 345 yards and three touchdowns in 16 games while sharing the field with Njoku. The Browns clearly have plans for Njoku and Hooper to remain in two-tight end sets moving forward, which will cap their fantasy ceilings in 2022.
