Alex Rodriguez reached the 3,000-hit plateau with a first-pitch homerun off of Justin Verlander at home in the Bronx.
The New York Yankees 3B/DH clobbered the ball into the right field bleachers, which made him the 29th player in MLB history to eclipse the 3,000-hit milestone. It was A-Rod’s only hit, but it was a memorable way to get into the exclusive club.
Former teammate Derek Jeter blasted his 3,000th hit with a homerun at Yankees Stadium a few seasons ago. Wade Boggs also drilled his 3,000th hit for a homer.
Despite missing an entire season due to a suspension surrounded by PEDs, Rodriguez has been better than most thought he would be as a 39-year-old who missed out on a full season. His .277/.382/.514 batting line, 13 HR and 35 RBI have helped the Yankees to a 37-30 record in 2015.
The scoreboard read "Congratulations Alex, 3,000."
