Aaron Hicks (OF, NYY) - Waiver Wire Pickups

Baller Move: Add in 14+ team leagues

Owned In: 1% of Fleaflicker leagues

Analysis: With a slash line of .091/.167/.091 to start the season, Aaron Hicks is a far cry away from his 11 HR-13 SB mark that he reached with the Twins in just 352 AB in 2015. Despite his unsightly batting figures, there are subtle indications that Hicks's performance should be on the rise. First off, Hicks isn't striking out very much with a strikeout rate of just 12.1%. This at least indicates that he isn't missing the ball like he's trying to catch a fly with Mr. Muyagi's chop sticks.

Hicks is also walking at a solid pace in the limited 2016 sample size with an 8.3% BB%. Finally, Hicks has an unbelievably low BABIP of .105 despite putting the ball in  play a whopping 79% of the time. The picture that these figures paint: Hicks isn't striking out and he isn't losing his eye for the strike zone. He is making consistent contact, yet is missing by just enough to not produce hard hit balls. Look for Hicks to find the ball's center here soon enough and start working towards living up to his power/speed potential.
