BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 14% of leagues
ANALYSIS: Kansas City Royals middle infielder Adalaberto Mondesi has been one of the best waiver wire pickups over the last weeks because he refuses to quit hitting. The Royals’ shortstop, who just turned 23, has gone hitless in the last two games, but has posted a .290/.304/.450 slash since the beginning of July, with three homers and 12 stolen bases.
Some of that success is certainly BABIP-fueled (.382), but given how tough it is right now to find players who can contribute steals without killing you in other categories, fantasy owners will take it. Mondesi is 12-for-14 on stolen bases since July 2 and has scored 15 runs in the same time period.
Mondesi does not have the flashiest of extra base hit numbers (nine extra base hits), but he does look like he can hold up his strong batting average and has speed to boot. Be mindful of the fact that he has cooled off considerably lately in terms of batting average (.262) this month, but also remember that he was 4-for-4 with two doubles on August 14. With his average and speed, and eligibility at second base and shortshop, Mondesi is a good depth addition in deeper leagues.
