BALLER MOVE: Add in all leagues
ROSTERED IN: 49% of leagues
ANALYSIS: After an injury-riddled 2019 and pandemic-shortened 2020 season in Atlanta after arriving at the trade deadline in 2018, Duvall made like LeBron and took his talents to South Beach. There was cautious optimism among the Marlins since Duvall slugged 16 homers in 57 games last year. That optimism looked misguided after a dreadful first month of the season in which Duvall hit just .188 with four homers in 24 games. He has 12 in the 38 games since, including 7 already in 17 June games.
Now is the time to see if someone bailed on Duvall in your league. Sure, the 16 homers are nice, but Duvall is also leading the National League with 52 RBI. Duvall is never going to do much for your average, but for leading the league in RBI, he can be forgiven for the average transgressions. Think about that for a minute: the league leader in RBI is on waivers in more than half of the leagues!
A dive into the metrics suggests that Duvall should be in for his first 30-homer season since 2017. There is reason to believe his average will get better considering the .241 BABIP. Duvall's numbers have never been all that high in the category due to the amount of fly balls that he hits, but it's well below his career mark of .270. Duvall also has the best barrel percentage of his career so far in 2021 at 15.4%. He is also in the 82nd percentile of average exit velocity, 91st percentile of maximum exit velocity, and 85th percentile of hard hit percentage. He should only continue to improve as the season goes on.
