The Chicago Cubs barely held onto an 8-6 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday. They had thank Addison Russell for his great day at the plate.
Russell went 3-for-4 with an RBI as he tries to prove to manager Joe Madden that he can be the everyday shortstop of the Cubbies.
Starlin Castro has mostly been riding the pine while Russell has been given the opportunity to play short. During that span, the Cubs have won nine of their last 10 games.
Castro has a .236 BA with 5 HR and 46 RBI. Russell hasn’t done better with his .235 BA, 7 HR and 28 RBI but he’s starting to come around. The former Chicago second baseman has been swinging the bat well since being moved to shortstop. In his last 12 games, Russell has 14 hits. If he can produce consistently, the Cubs could win one of the two National League Wild Card spots.
