Adam Wainwright is looking to make up for a lost 2015 where he was limited to only 28 innings after rupturing his Achilles tendon in April. When on the field, he was able to compile a pristine 2-1 record, 1.61 ERA and 20 strikeouts.
As important as legs are to pitchers, the arm is the essential part. So, while it is never good for a pitcher to suffer serious injury, Adam Wainwright's arm remaining uninjured is great news for his fortunes in 2016. Before and after his injury, he looked much like the Wainwright of 2014: a real-life ace and high third-tier fantasy starter. Wainwright's days of carrying a K/9 above 8.00 seem to be fading as his 6.77 mark from the past two seasons is trending down. But with a five-year average of 226 innings pitched per season, he should have plenty of opportunities to reach the 200-strikeout club for the fourth time in his career. Our 23rd-ranked starting pitcher, his low placement doesn't mean he's chopped liver—or honestly, any type of liver—as Wainwright is still as close to a lock as one gets in fantasy baseball.
