BALLER MOVE: Add in Deep Leagues
ANALYSIS: You're probably hearing a lot about Allen Hurns right now, and asking yourself "who the hell is this guy?" Don't worry, we've got you covered well in advance of Week 1's waiver wire deadline. Hurns is a rookie WR out of U of Miami who went undrafted in the 2014 draft, and also just happened to catch two 1st half touchdowns vs. the Eagles today. That's a pretty impressive debut, but before you go all gaga over Hurns, take a second and consider the full picture.
The Jaguars drafted two other rookie WRs in the 2014 draft (Allen Robinson and Marqise Lee), and although Hurns came on big in the preseason, it was mostly against 2nd and 3rd string defenses late in games. On top of that, Hurns only got a shot today because Cecil Shorts had an injured hammy and couldn't start. It remains to be seen how many targets Hurns will be able to get over the next few weeks when Shorts comes back. On the bright side, Hurns will definitely get some slack after this performance, and he might put that to good use with favorable matchups vs. Washington, Indianapolis, San Diego and Pittsburgh over the next 4 weeks, none of whom have an imposing secondary.
Allen Hurns is the definition of a lottery ticket - a guy that cost you nothing in the draft (since you didn't draft him), who might return significant value. You could pick him up in deep leagues, but if you do, do it with eyes wide open: there's a lot of downsides, and we didn't even mention the Jags O-line or QB, who are both questionable at best. Hurns could return some decent value the next few weeks, but don't expect anything close to a repeat of Week 1.
