Allonzo Trier (SG, NYK) - Week 16 Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add In 12-Team Leagues

OWNED IN: 26% of leagues

ANALYSIS: The New York Knicks are very publicly looking towards the future, and that future could now involve former Arizona Wildcat Allonzo Trier. Though he has been in the starting lineup in just three out of his first 40 NBA games and played in a team seventh-best 22.4 minutes each contest, this future-oriented mentality could soon prompt the Knicks to trade away several assets that have been taking playing time from Trier. Even in his limited time on the floor, Trier has still produced a well-rounded stat-line of 10.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. Even more encouragingly, he has been converting 0.7 out of 1.7 attempts from downtown per outing for a success rate of 38.8%.

With the New York paradigm shift, Trier has gained a lot more PT in the last four games since the January 17th showdown with the Wizards, earning between 23.5 and 32.5 minutes per night. In those four games, he has exploded across every category to the tune of 18.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.0 assists a pop, while going five for nine from beyond the arc for a 55.6% conversion rate. Also on the optimistic side, while Trier has averaged a far-from-intimidating 0.5 steals per game and ranks just 13th on the squad in steals per 36 minutes of play (0.8), he has managed to swipe six balls over the Knicks last four games for an average of 1.5 a night. The young New York Knicks may not be doing a lot of winning, but with the level of play of guys like Kevin Knox, it is apparent that they are doing plenty of growing. With Allonzo Trier receiving a beefier diet of minutes, he is an asset of value to fantasy basketball managers moving forward.
