Analysis: Andre Ellington has really only had three productive fantasy weeks this season. Chris Johnson has emerged as the starting back and gets the lion's share of carries while rookie David Johnson has been targeted more than Ellington in the air lately.
After his game-winning touchdown against the Seattle Seahawks two weeks ago, Ellington took a backseat to both Johnsons once again. He carried the ball for two yards on only two attempts in last week's contest versus the Cincinnati Bengals. He missed three weeks early in the season and put up an unforgivable zero fantasy points Week 8 against the struggling Cleveland Browns.
On Sunday, the Cardinals face the San Francisco 49ers, a team that has already given up ten rushing touchdowns and allows 126.2 rushing yards per game, according to ESPN.com The matchup is undoubtedly there, but odds are slim that Ellington will see enough time and touches to be productive from a fantasy standpoint.
Ellington is more than capable of breaking out during any given game, but his inconsistency and limited play makes him difficult to trust in any formatted league. He's a wait-and-see-type option during a time in fantasy when no owner can afford to wait, and needs to see production as playoffs loom. Ellington is a RB3/borderline FLEX, and hurts nobody by remaining on the bench.
