The Angels activated Johnny Giavotella from the 15-day DL on Friday after a month-long battle with a fourth-nerve palsy. The illness caused him to see double. He is reportedly healthy again which is why he has been cleared and activated.
The 28-year-old will bat ninth and start at second for an Angels team that has climbed back into postseason contention. The fifth-year player will add depth at the end of the lineup for a position that the Angels were struggling with while he was out.
Giavotella has a .265 BA with 3 HR and 40 RBI over 119 games this season. The Angels could use his bat after Taylor Featherston struggled mightily during his absence. Los Angeles trails the Houston Astros by 1 1/2 games with eight games to go. They open a three-game series at home against the Seattle Mariners.
