The Angels signed starting pitcher Mat Latos to a one-year contract on Monday as an emergency move to make up for the recent injuries to the starting rotation.
Jered Weaver is dealing with a shoulder issue after his start on Sunday, which could sideline him from pitching during the final week of the season. Matt Shoemaker hasn’t pitched in eight days and could miss the rest of the regular season because of a forearm injury. Latos could be used to start in place of Weaver.
The Angels have signed Mat Latos, who was released by the Dodgers. He will not be eligible for the postseason. They need some arms.

The bullpen is beat up as well. Closer Houston Street is done for the regular season with a Grade 1 groin strain while setup man Joe Smith injured his ankle. There’s a chance that Latos could be used in the bullpen instead.
The 27-year-old posted a 4.95 ERA and 1.30 WHIP over 112 2/3 innings for the Miami Marlins and the Los Angeles Dodgers this season. Latos will not be eligible for the postseason if the Angels are able to sneak in.
