BALLER MOVE: Pick Up In All Leagues
OWNED IN: 21% of Flea Flicker Leagues
ANALYSIS: Once a solid mid-rotation arm, injuries and ineffectiveness have derailed Anibal Sanchez's career over the past two seasons or so. But nothing prepared fantasy owners for the tragedy of 2015, when his HR/9 spiked so fiercely, it broke off the chart and ascended into the atmosphere in the same manner his pitches were. Sanchez allowed 29 home runs in 2015, most in the American League, averaging over one a start.
The cause of that scary jump has been attributed to a right shoulder injury, the same shoulder that has been haunting him since he broke into the league. At 32 years of age, each injury sustained will be a little bit harder to overcome and still be fantasy relevance. He's already missed time during Spring Training with a minor elbow issue, so the possibility of DL time continues to be very real, making him a volatile commodity.
If he can manage to stay healthy, Sanchez has the talent and team behind him to put up double digit wins with an ERA under 4.00 and a K/9 near 8.00. Those stats have back-end of the rotation value in mixed leagues, and are even more valuable in deeper and AL-only leagues. But remember: no health, no goods.
