Hello RotoBallers, today I will be discussing three under-the-radar NFL players and their fantasy football potential for the 2015 season.
Those owners in deeper leagues especially may be more interested in these players - but regardless of the format, they are all worth mentioning and monitoring.
Below I will be discussing a veteran, a second-year pro, and a rookie who are giving out hints that they may be statistically on the upswing, and may be en route to showing their potential for the season.
NFL Players Poised For A Breakout?
Bryan Walters (WR, JAX)
Owned in 0% of Fleaflicker leagues
With Marqise Lee out, Bryan Walters has been seeing the field more and Blake Bortles has been on laser point with his throws. Walters played only 12 out of 67 total snaps in Week 1, but in Weeks 3, 4, and 5 he has been in on 93 snaps out of a total 202. That's good for a 46% pace since Week 1. In that time Walters has caught eight passes out of nine targets for 136 yards (17 YPC). Also in that time, Blake Bortles has a 57.7% completion percentage and has thrown for 1,116 yards, nine TDs, and just two interceptions. Bryan Walters is poised for a breakout due to his increasing amount of snaps, high quality QB play, and potential as a deep threat.
Chris Hogan (WR, BUF)
Owned in 2% of Fleaflicker leagues
In Weeks 1 & 2, Chris Hogan played just 15 out of 131 snaps for the Buffalo offense. Since then he has been in on 110/198 snaps for a solid 55.5% of snap involvement. In that time Hogan has caught 11 out of 12 passes thrown his way for a 92% catch percentage. Hogan has gained 137 yards for 11.42 YPC (a total of four yards after the catch on average) and has yet to drop a pass. He has helped to fill the void created by Sammy Watkins' struggles and has performed well by capitalizing on all opportunities.
Maxx Williams (TE, BAL)
Owned in 14% of Fleaflicker leagues
In the last two weeks, Maxx Williams has played 93 out of 150 snaps for the Baltimore Ravens, a snap involvement rate of 62%. Williams's solid run-block rate of 2.7 according to ProFootballFocus is likely a big factor as to why Williams started to see more time (in addition to Crickett Gilmore's injury). The good news is, despite just a 53.3 catch percentage, Williams has yet to drop a pass, so his percentage is often the result of good defense. If Williams continues to block the for the run well, his incomplete passes in traffic will eventually turn into catches for big plays, given that Williams gets 10.5 yards per reception.
