The Oakland Athletics defeated the Texas Rangers thanks to a walk-off fielder’s choice on Wednesday.
The Athletics (24-37) scored two in the eighth inning and won the game in the bottom of the ninth thanks to Josh Reddick beating out what could have been a double-play to put the game into extras.
Keone Kela came in for the Rangers (31-28) to shut down Oakland for a save. He forced the first hitter into a groundout, which was followed by a Sam Fuld single. Billy Burns moved Fuld to a third with a base hit. Reddick hit what could have been a double-play ball to the second basemen, but he beat out the throw to first. Fuld scored and the Rangers won on the unusual walk-off victory.
It was a long comeback for the A’s as Jesse Hahn (3-5, 3.84 ERA) had a rocky outing, not getting out of the fourth inning. He allowed four runs, but Oakland cut the lead to two runs in the bottom of the inning. Tyler Clippard (1-3) earned his first win of the season after shutting the Rangers down in the top of the ninth.
