BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 26% of leagues
ANALYSIS: The Yankees injury bug continues to rip through the clubhouse and with James Paxton now out for a few weeks, Jordan Montgomery is the defacto SP3 for the Bronx Bombers behind Gerrit Cole and Masahiro Tanaka. Montgomery is no stranger to the IL himself having had Tommy John Surgery in 2018 meaning he's managed just 31.1 IP in the last two seasons. In his rookie year in 2017, Montgomery compiled a 9-7 record in 29 starts (155.1 IP) with a 3.88 ERA, so the signs were promising early in his career prior to TJS.
Now healthy again, Montgomery hasn't quite reached that level again and although he has managed two wins in his four starts so far, they've come at the cost of a 4.66 ERA. Montgomery has managed to limit baserunners with just a 1.09 WHIP, however. If you look at his four starts individually, the only road start he's had is the big blemish as he gave up five runs in 4.0 IP at the Phillies. His home ERA this year is just 2.93. Montgomery is a good streaming option and although he doesn't put up high strikeout numbers (14 Ks in 19.1 IP), with a significant number of starting pitchers hitting the IL recently, Montgomery should be in consideration for rostering in 12+ team leagues as someone you can pick and choose when to start him for your team.
