The Houston Astros have announced that they have extended the $15.8 million qualifying offer to outfielder Colby Rasmus.

It came as a slight surprise that the 29-year-old Colby Rasmus received the qualifying offer. The power-hitting Rasmus posted a career-high 25 home runs but also struck out a career-high 154 times. At his rather young age for an outfielder, he will receive plenty of attention for his ability to play all three outfield positions. His second taste of postseason baseball proved to be a significant improvement and it increased his value in free agency. Rasmus hit four home runs in six games this postseason.
He is expected to reject the qualifying offer though his style of play does suit the Astros.
