BCS New Year's Bowl Recap 1/2/15: 2014 NCAA Tournament

By Neon Tommy [CC-BY-SA-2.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0)], via Wikimedia CommonsWelcome to a very special edition of the Daily Sports Recap, where we're taking a look at all six of the biggest games of the college football season.

We will also be running a counter on just how many times we've heard that Fall Out Boy song.  The over/under is going to be 300 for all six games.  Any takers? (Hint: take the over)

Peach Bowl: Ole Miss vs. TCU, TCU wins 42-3

Buckle up, SEC fans.  It's gonna get bumpy.

TCU opened up the New Year's Six Bowls in the newly re-christened Peach Bowl by lambasting Ole Miss in Atlanta.  It's been suggested that maybe, hypothetically, TCU wasn't happy about being left out of the playoffs.  So they may have, hypothetically, tried to prove that they deserved to be there.  And hypothetically, they may have succeeded.  TCU came out and dominated from the first snap en route to a 42-3 rout, and honestly, it wasn't even that close.  The Horned Frogs defense harassed Bo Wallace all day, even picking off passes in the end zone.

TCU, it was truly a shame that you were denied a playoff spot, and we hope that next season you make it back.  Best of luck from all of us.

Orange Bowl: Mississippi State vs. Georgia Tech, Georgia Tech wins 49-34

Take heart, State fans; you managed to have a much better margin of victory than your in-state rivals.

Continuing the theme of "ranked SEC teams losing games they 'shouldn't have,'" Mississippi State went into the Orange Bowl and promptly got run off the field by Georgia Tech's triple option attack, which isn't infuriating at all.  I didn't get to see this one, so all I can do is congratulate Georgia Tech here for a truly outstanding season in Atlanta.

Fiesta Bowl: Boise State vs. Arizona, Boise State wins 38-30

Boise State fans, can you explain to us the weird witchy juju you've managed to conjure in Arizona?  Because from that all-time classic in 2007 (in case anyone needed reminding that the Statue of Liberty was still a play) to your defeat over presumptive home team Arizona this year, it seems like you guys have that locked down.  I'd expect a call or two (thousand) from the Big 12 this year.

Fall Out Boy song count: 175

Cotton Bowl: Baylor vs. Michigan State, Michigan State wins 42-41

I'll be honest: I was at work when Baylor and Michigan State played on New Year's and kinda gave up on the gamecast when it was 41-21, only to hit "refresh" about 8000 times after the blocked Baylor field goal.  Between the Cotton and the Outback (shout out to 250+ pound Brazilian kickers) I was sincerely infuriated to be at work.  Congratulations to Michigan State for pulling off the insane 21-point comeback in the fourth quarter that I didn't get to watch.  It's gonna take a while to get over that.

Rose Bowl: Oregon vs. Florida State, Oregon wins 59-20

Hey, has anyone checked to see if Nike's patented a football which causes allergic reactions in Southerners?  Because my God did Florida State turn the ball over. For some perspective, Oregon scored 34 points off turnovers.  Which is 4 touchdowns and 2 field goals.  Florida State was giving the ball away like it was a bunch of crab legs at Publix.  Incidentally, you should never assume I am above going for low-hanging fruit like that.  I am not.

Fall Out Boy song count: 466

Sugar Bowl: Ohio State vs. Alabama, Ohio State wins 42-35

So for those of you who don't know, I am currently an Ohio State undergrad.  So this evening was pretty much the best thing ever.  We were down 21-6 at one point.  To Alabama.  Who was 78-2 in games they ever had a 14-point lead in.  Ohio State now advances to play Oregon in the College Football Playoff finals.  On our third-string quarterback.  After beating the No. 1 seed in the country.  Honestly, anything else I could type would just be caps-locked incoherent gibberish at this point and absolutely none of it would be safe for work.

Fall Out Boy song count: 500 (told you to take the over)

I'm going to go do that Leo DiCaprio thing where I throw my arms out on a boat and exclaim my place as king of the world.  Anyone got a boat I can borrow?
