BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 12% of Yahoo! leagues
ANALYSIS: First Mitch Haniger, now Ben Gamel emerges as a surprising young contributor in the Mariners' outfield. Gamel's road to fantasy relevance was a bit more unexpected, as the former Yankees prospect was in Triple-A to start the season. Numerous injuries forced him into the lineup and he has delivered with a .318/.423/.500 slash line, 12 RBI and 14 runs scored over 71 plate appearances. Gamel hit over .300 each of the last two seasons in Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, so the averages are legit. Don't expect nearly as much power as Haniger, however, as Gamel reached 10 HR just once in the minors. He did have five separate seasons of double-digit steals, so there could be even more value to come if he sustains his excellent 15.2% BB%.
Haniger's oblique injury could keep Gamel in the starting lineup for a while longer, but he should have proven his worth well enough to keep on the roster regardless. In mixed leagues, Gamel makes a great streaming option for the immediate future and could be someone to stash in keeper leagues in case his season turns into a true breakout.
