Ben Roethlisberger Hopes to Play and Ameer Abdullah’s Role to Grow

When the fantasy football season started, Ameer Abdullah’s owners thought they had the steal of their draft. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case. Through eight games Abdullah only has 225 yards and one rushing touchdown on 63 carries. Granted, Abdullah isn’t completely to blame. After all, every player on the Lions team has struggled this year.

But more alarming than his numbers has been the fact that the Lions have began to feature Joique Bell in favor of the rookie out of Nebraska. However, Lions new offensive coordinator has told the media that Abdullah’s role will grow as the season goes on.

As a general role, don’t believe it until you see it. Abdullah should not be anywhere near the fantasy football radar in Week 10 against the Green Bay Packers. He does have a ton of talent and can contribute in the passing game just as much as the running game, but ultimately he can’t do anything from the bench.

For the safe of dynasty owners, let’s hope Abdullah opens up the 2015 NFL season as the Lions unquestionable featured back.

In other, surprising, news, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger may play on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns after all.

Initially Big Ben’s foot injury was expected to keep him out of action for a few weeks, but his recovery is apparently way beyond schedule. When asked whether he would play in Week 10 or not, Roethlisberger replied, “I hope so.”

I would be shocked if Roethlisberger took the field against the Browns, especially when the team has Week 11 bye week. The smart thing for the team to do would be to sit Roethlisberger against the Browns so he has two weeks to recover.

The Steelers will need a healthy Roethlisberger for final quarter of the season. The team will have to face the Seattle Seahawks in Week 12, the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 14 and the Denver Broncos in Week 15.

In the five games Roethlisberger has been able to play this season he has completed 119 of his 178 passing attempts for a completion percentage of 66.9. He has thrown for 1508 yards and seven touchdowns. He has also been intercepted six times.

I wouldn’t recommend starting Roethlisberger this week even if a minor miracle takes place and he does play. But although Antonio Brown is a must-start regardless of who’s playing quarterback – his numbers would benefit greatly with Big Ben in the lineup.
