BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 1% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: The New York Giants might have one of the most depleted groups of receivers in the NFL right now. Sterling Shepard missed time with a concussion in Week 2 and is looking like he'll be inactive again in Week 3 on the road in Tampa Bay. Meanwhile, veteran Golden Tate remains on the sideline thanks to his PED suspension. Evan Engram is really the only pass-catcher in that offense that has been getting solid volume, with running back Saquon Barkley looking like the second option.
Meanwhile, Bennie Fowler has been quietly seeing decent volume in the passing game. In Week, 1 he caught five of five targets for 40 yards. In Week 2, he saw 10 targets, hauling in just five of them for 51 yards as well as taking one carry for 20 yards. The appeal with Fowler is not his team or his skillset, but simply being one of the only options on that offense. This week, they are on the road against the Buccanneers, who were awful against the pass last year, but have looked much better this year. Keep in mind, the Giants have officially benched Eli Manning and are rolling out rookie Daniel Jones this week, so we'll see what the Giants have in store. This matchup could make for a decent debut from the rookie.
Picking up Fowler isn't ideal or the most glamorous move out there, but it makes sense in deeper leagues. With depending on how many wide receivers you start, how many Flex spots you have, and how deep your league is, he could even be a long-shot play this week. When Shepard and Tate both return to the field, he likely won't be useful. There's also a chance that he ends up clicking with Jones and carries streaming value throughout the year.
