The Philadelphia Phillies will be without starting pitcher Chad Billingsley for 4-6 weeks after he was diagnosed with a Grade 2 right lat strain, according to MLB.com.
The right-hander suffered the injury during his last start on Friday against the Arizona Dbacks. Billingsley, 30, has only three starts this season. He was placed on the 15-day DL Sunday, but now the Phillies know they’ll be without the veteran arm in their rotation for a while.
Billingsley suffered the injury during his start last Friday. He was still recovering from Tommy John surgery that forced him to miss the entire 2014 season and the beginning of this one. This is Billingsley’s first year away from the Dodgers, and it hasn’t been a memorable one.
Severino Gonzalez has been called up and will momentarily take Billingsley's spot in the rotation. Gonzalez, 22, hasn’t fared too well in his last two seasons with both Double-A and Triple-A, sporting an ERA over four. The youngster is being given a chance to see if can shine on the big stage.
