Billy Hamilton stole a career-high five bases during Sunday’s extra-inning loss to the Chicago Cubs.
He's the first to accomplish this feat since Jacoby Ellsbury did it in May 2013, according to Rotoworld.
After a single in the third inning, Hamilton stole second, then third base on Lester's first two offerings. He then doubled, took third and came around to score the Reds lone run in the sixth, according to MLB.com.
The 24-year-old center fielder isn’t going to impress with his meager .224 BA, but he leads the league in steals with 31 after his big day yesterday. It was a perfect storm of Hamilton's blazing speed and the continued inability of Jon Lester to control the running game.
Hamilton's fifth steal of the day was also the 100th of his career, in just 219 games. Last year, Hamilton had 56 SB and was caught 23 times. This season, he’s only been caught four times.
