Bones Hyland (PG/SG, DEN): Week 22 Waiver Wire Pickups

ANALYSIS: Was Jamal Murray's injury a blessing in disguise? Was Bones Hyland destined to be drafted and heavily played by the Nugs no matter what? I don't know about that, but I for sure know Denver found a golden Nugget (pun intended) in last year's draft by picking Bones with the 26th pick of the first round. Seriously. Out of left field, maybe, but Hyland has contributed a ton and then some in this derailed-not-derailed Nugs campaign. And now MPJ and Murray are expected back for the postseason run. Uh, oh.

Getting back to Hyland, the kid has played 58 games throughout Friday, and although he started the season getting some high-teens MPG he's now averaging nearly 23+ MPG in March alone. Hyland started three games right before the break, but that was never going to hold and that's been the case with Bones back on the pine these days. Not that we care! Hyland is still putting up ridiculous numbers: the guard has averaged 1.27 FP/min in the past nine games (league average at 0.90) and always played at above-average efficiency levels.

Hyland is averaging an extraordinary 14+ PPG (including 2.5+ 3PG), 3+ RPG, 4+ APG, and 1+ SPG this month. Murray is already getting reps in the G League, though even if he comes back in time to play some RS games, it's not that Denver needs to throw him into the rotation and risk any sort of setback or re-injury. Bones will keep playing heavy minutes (he's been up to 32, 24, and 35 minutes in the past three games) while contributing on all fronts with great shooting even though he's hoisting 11+ FGA these days and hitting 3 3PG in the last five outings.
