O'Connell Sports Management, the agency that represents starting pitcher Wade Miley, announced that Miley and the Boston Red Sox have agreed to a three-year deal worth $19.25 million and takes care of him for his remaining three years of arbitration. This contract will not delay his free agency though.

In addition to the three years, there is a fourth year through a club option. He will receive a $500,000 signing bonus before earning $3.5 million in 2015, $6 million in 2016, and $8.75 million in 2017. The club option is valued at $12 million and comes with a $500,000 buyout. There are $2 million in incentives that would boost the value of the $12 million option to $14 million. With the three years, incentives, and the club option, Miley could earn a total of $31 million over the next four years.
Miley, 28, was acquired by the Boston Red Sox at the Winter Meetings this year from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for right-handed starting pitchers Rubby de la Rosa and Allen Webster. In his first full season in the league in 2012, Miley finished with his first All-Star selection and second in the NL Rookie of the Year award voting with a 16-11 record and a 3.33 ERA.
In the following two seasons, he finished with a .500 or worse record including an 8-12 record with a 4.34 ERA in 201.0 innings. While his career strikeout rate of 7.1 is not impressive, a 48.6% ground ball rate is a tremendous positive for Miley that should help him succeed in his first year in the American League with the Boston Red Sox.
He joins the acquired Rick Porcello and the returning Justin Masterson in a rotation that already features Clay Buchholz and Joe Kelly.
