ANALYSIS: Shortstop is not the deepest position in fantasy baseball these days and there's a pretty steep drop-off after the top 10 are off the board. If you wait on the position, whether by choice or not, Brad Miller stands out as a name with great value. Miller qualifies at first base as well, but is far more valuable at SS as a rare power threat. He finished last season in Tampa Bay with 30 HR, 81 RBI and 73 R. How many other shortstops can claim a 30 HR season? Actually, none. Marcus Semien and Trevor Story were the closest with 27 apiece. Manny Machado may still qualify at SS in some leagues, but it's not a given.

His averages will definitely offset the power, as he slashed .243/.304/.482. A career .246 hitter, you shouldn't expect that to change. However, if it's later on in your draft and you're in need of power rather than speed, Miller makes a nice flex play given his eligibility at MI or CI. He should soon gain second base eligibility as well thanks to the departure of Logan Forsythe. Miller looks to be locked in for another 600 plate appearances, if not more, and at age 27 is still growing into his power. Target Miller a round or two before his current ADP, somewhere around #150 overall.
