Quick quiz -- how many shortstops had more home runs than Brandon Crawford (21) last season? That would be just one, Houston Astros wunderkind Carlos Correa. And how many had more RBIs than Crawford (84)? Well, zero. You get the point. The San Francisco Giants infielder enjoyed a breakout season in 2015, establishing career highs in home runs, RBIs, average (.256), hits (130), runs (65) and steals (six). He parlayed that success into a six-year, $75 million extension. Now, can he build off of last season's performance?
Even if his numbers regress a bit, Crawford still offers value at a position that always feels a little light. Correa and Boston's Xander Bogaerts are young studs, but once you get past them, there's little to differentiate between shortstops in the second tier. Crawford has always been known for his defense, but if he comes close to another 20-home run season, he'll likely repeat as a top-10 shortstop. Best of all? He won't cost an arm and a leg to acquire.
