Analysis: Despite his youthful energy and taste in walk-up music, Brandon Phillips is actually 34 years old and was drafted in 1999 by the Montreal Expos. However, despite predictions for years, his age has yet to take a significant toll on his play. In 89 AB so far this season Phillips has two HR, three SB, and an impressive slash line of .281/.316/.427. His sustained success for his beloved Reds this season can be attributed to a very low strikeout percentage of 12.1% and high in-play and line drive percentages of 81% and 32%. By not striking out and by repeatedly hitting the ball hard, Phillips is able to maintain success at the plate. This season Phillips has been deadly against LHP with a .308 BA and .859 OPS and has also played well to the Cincinnati crowd with a .313 BA and .812 OPS at home. Phillips has always gained notoriety for his magical glove at second base, but 50% of Fantasy Baseball Managers are currently missing out on his seemingly timeless ability to produce base hits in abundance, in conjunction with a sneaky power/speed potential every season.
