ANALYSIS: After retaking the starting role partway through the Texans Week 5 matchup vs the Colts, Hoyer has delivered solid fantasy week after solid fantasy week. In four mostly full games since, Hoyer has averaged 278 yards with multiple passing touchdowns in each of those games. Hoyer is not actually a great quarterback or anything. His value relies on volume, and lots of it!
Luckily for fantasy, the Texans are a pretty bad team. Why is this a good thing? In five losses this season Texans QBs have averaged just over 50 pass attempts per game. Mallett and Hoyer have combined to average 19 fantasy points in these games. Now Mallett is gone of course and Hoyer has no competition for the starting role.
In Week 10 Hoyer faces the Bengals. They’ve been pretty stingy vs QBs, allowing the 7th fewest points. The Texans are massive 12 point underdogs. As we know, that means a LOT of passing for Hoyer and heavy targeting of Deandre Hopkins which should lead to a respectable fantasy day. He should finish as a top 15ish QB regardless of how ugly the game ends up being.
