Bryce Harper has been diagnosed with a mild left hamstring strain, according to CSNWashington.com.
Washington Nationals manager Matt Williams announced the injury to the star outfielder after Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Tampa Rays.
According to the report, Harper will be re-evaluated on Friday. TIt's unclear if it will require a DL stint or just a few days off. There’s also a chance it could be nothing and he maybe misses a game.
With the Nationals up, 3-2, Asdrubal Cabrera singled to right field and Harper tried to get Logan Forsythe at the plate, but Harper threw the ball into the Rays' dugout, allowing Steven Souza Jr. to score and Cabrera to reach third, according to MLB.com. Harper stayed down after the throw for a few minutes. Eventually he was taken out of the game, though he left under his own power.
This is a major loss for a Nationals team that is 34-33 and in a slug fest for first place in the NL East with the New York Mets. The 22-year-old is having an MVP-like season. Harper owns a .344 BA, 1.204 OPS, 22 HR and 52 RBI. This is one bat Washington might not be able to replace. The team has suffered a plethora of injuries this season.
