Bryn Forbes (PG, SA) - Week 3 Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add In 14-Team Leagues

OWNED IN: 24% of leagues

ANALYSIS: With such a different-look Spurs roster for the 2018 NBA campaign, it shouldn't be a huge surprise that certain players have seen a huge expansion in their on-court roles, and Bryn Forbes has exemplified this transition. Last season Forbes was only able to put up 6.9 points and 0.4 steals with a 39% success rate on his 2.9 three-pointer attempts through an average of 19 minutes-played per contest. Through six games this season (and six starts) Forbes has already been asked to produce a lot more for San Antonio to the tune of 31 minutes per game, and in that time he has already been producing 14.5 points and one steal per outing, not to mention his phenomenal 45.5% success rate on a team-leading 5.5 three-point attempts per game. Forbes is certainly not a high-volume producer of assists at the point guard position, and his role seems to be a scoring guard with a specialization in long-range shooting considering his average for three-point FG made (2.5) per game is a full shot higher than the next-best shooter on the team (Marco Belinelli).

While Forbes's defense is definitely a work in progress, his growth in this department is what makes up the difference in the loss one takes in the assist department by adding him to their rosters. So far this season Forbes's steal percentage has gone from 0.9% last season to 1.6%. With that improvement in his defensive efficiency bringing his individual-game steals average to 1.0, he is finally offering enough statistical production on the opponent's side of the court in conjunction with his near-15 PPG scoring and dead-eye deep shooting to be an asset of value to fantasy basketball managers in deeper leagues. At 31 minutes per game in the role of starting point guard for the San Antonio Spurs, Bryn Forbes role on the roster should be considered safe for the time being.
