In the two years prior to 2015, Matt Adams hit righties so well he was able to hide his struggles against southpaws. During an injury-ravaged 2015, he hit no one well, prompting St. Louis to replace him with Brandon Moss.
Like Garfield and lasagna, like Mulder and Scully, Adams and righties enjoy a timeless love. His relationship with lefties is the exact opposite, so when he slumped against righties last year, it brought the whole ship down. With no reason to assume he hasn't healed completely, it is safe to look to Adams to return to his 2013-2014 levels...if he still had a starting position. Penciled in on the depth chart as the backup at first base for a manager not known to utilize platoons, he is currently the odd man out. Regaining a starting role for 2017 will provide Adams with all the motivation necessary to perform well. Look at him as a bench player with deep upside.
