Buy and Sell: Fantasy Baseball Waiver Targets for Week 24

It’s likely the trade deadline has passed in your fantasy baseball league, and now you need to take some advice for the home stretch.  There’s still plenty of time to make a stretch run at that league title.'

Buy ‘Em

For other Buy ‘em players, check out Joe Berger’s weekly Prospect Primer.

  1. Billy Hamilton – It’s late in the season and Dusty will play Hamilton some and expect him to be a thief.  He is a steals machine and a must-own, even coming off the bench.
  2. Brandon Moss on July 29, 2012Brandon Moss – At this point, he should definitely be owned, with a red-hot August that included eight home runs and a 19 RBI.  If he's available, he will help you in your playoffs or as your season comes to a close.
  3. Carlos Ruiz – At catcher this late in the season, Ruiz would be a great bench player, especially if you find that your current catcher sitting more.  He is fresh and will be in the Philly lineup daily.
  4. Alex Wood – Ignore his last start in which he was pounded for seven runs in only 2.1 innings.  He has a fresh arm with only 65 major league innings, and up until his last start he posted a 2.27 ERA.  He still holds a solid 3.15 ERA and could provide you with cheap wins and strikeouts.  Wood is posting more than a strikeout per inning.
  5. Will Venable – Like Moss, Venable may already be sitting on a roster, but if he is not he really turned it on in August and could make an impact in your league.

Sell 'Em

  1. Jason Kubel – Since joining the Tribe in late August, Kubel has seen limited action, but he has made the most of his at bats. In three games, he is 2-for-5 with a double and three walks; if he gets increased time, he could make a solid impact, but until then, he's just waiver fodder.
  2. Johnny Cueto – Baker is likely going to make Cueto a bullpen guy, and there's just no point in hanging on to a guy who A) might struggle coming off the DL, and B) might not provide you with any relevant fantasy stats.
  3. Paul Konerko – He's just had an incredibly bad season, and his batting average is a killer.  He began September with one homer in 17 at bats and a .235 BA.
  4. Dan Uggla – In his last 19 games, he has six hits with ZERO extra-base hits.
  5. Jason Heyward – It seems to me VERY unlikely that Heyward will come back this season, but we should know more after his visit with doctors on Monday, September 9.
