Are you looking to trade? If your answer is “yes”, then the RotoBaller.com Buy/Sell Weekly Article is where to find some players of the week to Sell High on, and bunch for you to Buy Low.
You trade for one of two reasons:
- You need a shortstop, have an extra third baseman and someone has as extra shortstop. You trade a third baseman for a shortstop. Done.
- You have a player who is exceeding expectations. He is unlikely to keep it up, so you trade him for a position you need. Done.
Let's get into the post All-Star Break edition:
BUY 'EM
- Paul Konerko – Konerko has struggled a bit this year (and might even be available on waivers), so he could provide some pretty cheap home runs and RBI over the next few months. He has traditionally hit well for average in the second half.
- Paul Maholm – Maholm has shown stretches of extremely sexy fantasy stats, including his first three games: 3-0, 0 ER, 3 W and 20 K. If you take away his eight-run junker in April and his six-run junker in May, he would be one of the league leaders in terms of ERA and WHIP.
- Zack Wheeler – Wheeler will be in line for a lot of starts in the second half of the season, and though he has pitched modestly, he has a lot more fantasy potential to offer as he settles in.
- R.A. Dickey – With the time off to rest his sore shoulder, he could be in line for a solid second half of the season. He has found himself on the “Buy ‘em” before, but now might represent the best time to snag and stash him. He has yet to prove he can be put in your starting rotation each time out, that could change quickly.
SELL 'EM
- Alfonso Soriano – Soriano is producing to this point, but he is always the subject of trade talks and he could struggle settling in a new jersey. He's notoriously streaky as it is. Stay away.
- Jose Fernandez – Innings limit, bottom line. He has pitched over 100 innings, and in 2012 he only hit 134 total innings. Despite Ryan Rufe’s 190 inning Bold Prediction, Fernandez will be shut down. Prepare.
- Raul Ibanez – He is tearing it up and has 24 homers, tied for fifth in baseball. He just will not stay this hot, and if you can find a buyer looking for some pop from an outfield bat, move him.
- Daniel Nava – It feels like Nava is bound to run out of steam, and we might have seen it already-- just 3 RBI in 12 games in July. Market his batting average contributions-- currently sitting at .288.
- Jacob Turner – The Tigers' former first-round pick has started eight games for the Marlins this year. He has been lights-out, sporting a 2.33 ERA. He is enjoying a phenomenal start to his second season and if you've been starting him, you've enjoyed it too. But you don’t want to be a part of the coming sophomore slump. The Marlins are also offering zero run support, and to earn his three victories, he's had to hold his opponents to a combined three runs.
- Chris Davis – Listen, Davis is as hot as can be, but baseball is a game of averages and what goes up, must come down. Sell, sell, sell, despite his being named RotoBaller's (relative) Youngster of the Year.
