C.J. Wilson struck out nine en route to a victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday.
This marked the second strong start in a row for the Angels’ left-hander. Wilson allowed only one run as he went eight innings for the victory. The only run came in the sixth inning. Wilson shut it down from there.
The 34-year-old now has a 3.39 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 81/27 K/BB ratio over 93 innings. This start comes off a seven-inning, two-hit performance against the Oakland A’s. Wilson didn’t allow a run in that start. These two good starts follow two terrible performances. He allowed 11 runs over the span of two outings against the New York Yankees and Tampa Rays.
The Angels sit in third place in the AL West with a 34-33 record. They will need consistent pitching from Wilson in order to stay in the hunt for October.
Wilson will next take on the Astros on Tuesday.
