BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 2% of leagues
ANALYSIS: According to MLB.com, 23-year-old Cal Mitchell is the #25 prospect in a Pirates farm system chock-full of top talent, and he just got the call-up to the big leagues for the 19-26 squad, already racking up five hits (two doubles), two RBI, and a run in 17 AB. The San Diego native is a pre-2019 top-100 prospect and Team USA (18U) veteran. He could have likely benefited from minor league play in 2020, because though he has demonstrated well-rounded abilities in the minors, he had yet to break through with fantastic play until 2022.
However, this year in 124 AB for Triple-A Indianapolis, Mitchell has hit for 14 XBH (five homers, nine doubles), stolen six bases with zero CS, and produced a slash of .307/.362/.500; rising to the echelon that his former prospect ranking would have projected. Pittsburgh has the personnel to swing towards an all-out youth kick, and the competition in their outfield is nowhere near formidable enough to force Mitchell back to the minors if he continues to perform well. For those Fantasy Baseball Managers in 12+ team leagues, Cal Mitchell is a solid, widely-available option for across-the-board statistical contributions.
